What is a POP
email account?
POP is short for Post Office Protocol. When you register for a W3U
web hosting account with domain name = yourdomainname (e.g. w3u.com), you
are automatically set up with a POP account, with email address =
yourusername@yourdomainname (e.g. w3u@w3u.com)
Tip: Once you set up your web
hosting account, market yourself with your domain name email address e.g. you@yourname.com
It's much more effective than using your Internet access email address e.g.
yournamexyz0@somebodyelse.com
Besides, when you change Internet Access providers, your email address
will also change (unlike when you change Internet Presence providers).

What is an autoresponder?
An autoresponder is a utility that automatically sends an email message to
the person who sends you an email message when their message is deposited
into your email box. The autoresponder can be configured to send
autoresponses that are specific to the email alias recipient. All of
W3U web hosting accounts come with email autoresponders (for more info see
How do I administer my web domain email?).
What is
a list server?
A list server is a program that sends a unique email message to each
member on an email address list. Unlike most common email readers
(e.g. Eudora, Outlook Express, Netscape) that will send email messages to
multiple recipients, the list server does not include the other email
addresses in the body of the message that's sent. Hence, each
message appears unique. The list server provides a cleaner look when
sending the same email message to groups of family members, friends,
business associates, or clients. Please be advised, however, that
spamming and sending unsolicited email are violations of W3U's Acceptable
Use Policy, so please use your list server with discretion.
What is an email alias?
As mentioned above, your account comes with a primary email address, which
is yourusername@yourdomainname. If you want to receive email at
sales@yourdomainname, then sales would be an example of an alias.
All of our accounts come with unlimited email aliasing. Therefore,
you can receive email at anybody@yourdomainname (for more info see How
do I administer my web domain email?)

What is email forwarding?
As it sounds, email forwarding takes place when you have email that is
sent to one email address, forwarded to another email address. For
instance, you can have email that is sent to your web hosting email
address, yourusername@yourdomainname, forwarded to your Internet Access
email address youxyz89@somebodyelse.com. The email forwarding
service comes with all W3U web hosting accounts (for more info see How
do I administer my web domain email?).
How do I check
my email?
In the following example, I'm assuming that you want to check email that
has been sent to yourusername@yourdomainname. Checking email is a
fairly standard procedure, which in effect, is independent of the
software that you use to send, retrieve, and read email (e.g.
Netscape, Outlook Express, Eudora, etc..). Just look for something
like 'account set up' in the menus of your email software (usually under
'File', or 'Edit', or 'Options', or 'Tools'). The only information
you should need to set up the account is your 'username', 'password',
outgoing SMTP, and incoming SMTP.
Your 'username' is in email
message that you received from W3U, along with other account set up
details. You specified your password when you ordered our web
hosting service. Your outgoing SMTP is yourdomainname (e.g.
yourname.com). Alternatively, you can specify any other SMTP for
your outgoing email (e.g. your access provider's outgoing SMTP,
somebodyelse.com). Your incoming SMTP, on the other hand, must be
yourdomainname (e.g. yourname.com). If you still need help, give us a
call at 619 444 9186.
